What is NB-IoT?
Narrowband IoT or better known as NB-IoT is one of the low power wide area network (LPWAN) technology currently available in the market. To learn more, please click here.
How much time do I have to commit to the program?
You can choose to attend the Challenge Introduction either on:
- Thursday, 23 May (4.30pm - 8.00pm) in Penang,
- Saturday, 25 May (9.30am - 1.00pm) in Kuala Lumpur, or
- Monday, 27 May (4.00pm - 7.30pm) in Kuching
If your pitch video gets selected to proceed to the next stage, you will be required to attend these sessions:
- IoT Workshop - Saturday, 20 Jul (9am - 6pm) in Kuala Lumpur
- Pitch Preparation - Friday, 16 Aug (5 - 8pm) in Kuala Lumpur
- Pitch Day - Tuesday, 20 Aug (9am - 6pm) in Kuala Lumpur
Is the Challenge only for Malaysians?
This challenge is open to all Malaysians and non-Malaysians who have a valid PR or work/student permit.
Does Maxis claim ownership of intellectual property rights for my idea or innovation if I participate in the Challenge?
No, your ideas are yours to keep.
Are there any registration or program fees?
No. There are no fees or charges.
How do I sign up?
Fill in the registration form to join one of our Challenge Introduction days to learn more about the NB-IoT kit and problem statements. The link to submit your pitch video for the challenge is on the IoT Challenge website.
Do I need a team?
You can attend as an individual or as a team for the Challenge Introduction. There will be a speed dating session during the Challenge Introduction Day where you can form teams for the actual Challenge. The ideal team should consist of 2-5 pax with a mix of programming and business/marketing skills.
Am I required to use the Maxis NB-IoT kit to develop my solution?
Yes. A briefing on NB-IoT will be given during the Challenge Roadshow to help you come up with a solution for the pitch video. If your idea gets selected you will be given the Maxis NB-IoT Kit during the IoT Workshop day to be used for your prototype.
Do I need to return the NB-IoT kit after the challenge and what happens to my data?
No, you would not be required to return the starter kit after the challenge.
Can I submit more than 1 idea for the pitch video?
Yes, you may.
How are the ideas selected for the IoT Workshop?
A panel of judges will be looking at your submission to see if it meets the selection criteria. We are looking for innovative solutions using Maxis NB-IoT that can solve real world problems in line with the problem statements given. Your pitch videos must be a maximum of 2 minutes long and submitted via a YouTube link. The submission page will open between 13 May - 30 June 2019.
When will I know if my idea has been selected for the IoT Workshop?
You will be notified in the first week of July via email.
