• What is Voice over WiFI?

  Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) is a term typically to describe the delivery of voice call services using Voice over IP (VoIP) technologies from mobile devices connected across WiFi.

• Do I need to call Maxis to activate VoWIFI on my Maxis Mobile?

  No. all Maxis Postpaid and Hotlink customers who were provisioned with VoLTE will be able to VoWiFi service.

• What is the benefit of VoWiFI?

  Most notably, Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) allows user to receive and make call over a WiFi network where Maxis has limited or no network coverage. It is a simple direct dial, as long as you are having a compatible phone and have turned on WiFi-Calling at your phone.   Beside this, it will be a seamless handover where user stays connected in an active call when moving to a strong 4G coverage but weak in WiFI signal.

• What are the disadvantages of VoWiFI?

  It has dependency on WiFI network as WiFI connections may lag with inadequate signal strength especially crowded venues, i.e. malls, hotels, airports, universities & cafe. 

  Apart from this, some devices do not support VoWIFI, hence you need to have a compatible phone before using this service.

  Feedback from users that it may consume more battery power from your phone if you are on VoWiFi call.

• What are the devices that support VoWiFI?

  Please note that the above list is not exhaustive. Kindly check with device or phone manufacturer for compatibility.

• How to enable VoWiFI on my android phone? iPhone?

  Different phone may have different steps to enable VoWiFi.

  In general:

  From your phone, click at SETTINGS > MOBILE NETWORK > Enable WiFi Calling/VoWiFi

  If your phone does not have this option, it may not support Maxis VoWiFi, do ensure that your phone is on the latest software or contact the device customer service for more information.

• If I need to change the SIM card to use VoWiFI?

  You do not have to change your SIM card to enjoy VoWiFI,  provided your SIM card is an LTE-SIM. 

• What is the charging rate for VoWIFI?

  Calls within Malaysia will be charged according to the standard call rates according to your rateplan.

  If your Mobile plan is bundled with voice minutes, VoWIFI calls will utilize those minutes. In the absence of bundled voice minutes, you will be charged at Pay-Per-Use rate.

• If VoWiFI utilize my data quota allocated to my mobile plan?

  VoWIFI calls do not utilize any data quota allocated to you under your Mobile plan. However, you are responsible for data consumption charges over the WiFi network.

• Can I make international call via VoWiFI?

  Yes, you can make international call with VoWiFI where IDD rate will be charged according to your billplan. 

• Can I use VoWIFI while roaming, what is the charging rate?

  VoWIFI while roaming is not available, Customer will be notified once it is available. 

• What are the differences between VoLTE and VoWIFi?

  • VoLTE is referred as Voice Over 4G LTE network, it offers superior voice quality as compared to VoWIFI. Users can still have their data on while being on a call. It has the multitasked capabilities with apps, such as video calling, multimedia file sharing, images and phone calls simultaneously at the fastest speed.
  • VoWIFI uses the WiFI network to make calls and on HD.  VoWIFI improves call reliability indoors, regardless of your mobile signal strength.

• Can I send or receive sms on WiFi access?

  No, SMS is only supported on cellular network currently. Support for SMS over WiFi will is in our roadmap and customer will be informed when this is supported

• Can I send or receive USSD on WiFi access?

  No, USSD is only supported on cellular network currently. Support for USSD over WiFi  is in our roadmap and customer will be informed when this is supported
