International Roaming

  • You can activate International Roaming by requesting assistance from your company’s PIC.

  • There is no monthly subscription to turn on the International Roaming service. 

    For more info on Roaming passes and pay-per-use charges for usage on data, calls and SMS while roaming, you may refer to www.maxis.my/BusinessRoam.

  • There are 2 ways.

    1. Maxis Business roaming service enables call and SMS within all roaming partners networks well as Data connections in most countries. You can get the info on services and rates from here.
    2. If you are already travelling, when you switch ON your mobile or upon arrival, you will will receive a Welcome SMS indicating the network you are hook up to as well as the available services.


    For countries where there is NO data roaming, it is advisable to SWITCH OFF Data Roaming on your phone settings and use other alternative means.

  • You may also find out if data roaming is available in the country you are visiting here.

    Data roaming has been switched OFF in some countries as there is no affordable data roaming pass. You may stay connected with call and SMS at pay per use rates or use other alternative means for data connection.

    Check if your device is compatible with the available roaming network in the destination country. Example: Only 4G & 5G devices with VoLTE emergency calls enabled is allowed in Australia.

  • Australian Government had authorized to disable 3G service effective 28 October 2024. Along with a new legislation, that only phones connected to Australian networks must be able to make emergency Triple Zero (000) calls over 4G. This change had also affected the roaming requirements for travelers coming to Australia.

    The impact:

    Impact on Maxis users with active International Roaming service may experience inability to connect to local network even with 4G device and inability to make or receive calls and SMS without data.

    Steps to get your phone’s IMEI:

    • Android: Phone Setting > About Phone
    • iPhone: Phone Setting > General > About

    If your device is not compatible, alternatively, you can opt for Whatsapp call & messages over Wi-Fi connections.

     

  • You can check roaming rates easy here.

    Alternatively you may use Maxis app, under your selected line, click on Roaming Rates in Service Details section.

    If you do not have internet access, you may also check roaming rates for calls, SMS and data by dialing *100# select Intl Roaming, select any Country > Other/More Services > Check Rates.

  • Use our Roam 120 service to enjoy better savings whenever you call home from overseas.

    To use, dial *120*<country code><area code/mobile prefix><phone number># to call.

  • Charging block for calls to Malaysia from abroad is 60 seconds.

  • With 5G roaming you will enjoy increased internet speeds on your data roaming pass when you roam on our 5G preferred partner. You will need a 5G phone to experience 5G.

  • You will be able to enjoy 5G while roaming in selected countries if you meet all the following requirements:

    1.  An active 5G access pass on your plan or subscribed to Maxis Business Postpaid plans with 5G;
    2. Purchased a data roaming pass in a 5G enabled roaming country, check here;
    3. 5G capable device. For a list of 5G capable devices please check here;
    4.  4G LTE SIM. To check, just dial *100*8*5# from your phone; and 
    5. Enabled 5G settings on your device.
  • 5G roaming is available for Maxis subscribers in the following countries; and more countries will be added soon.

  • Yes, you will be able to enjoy 5G while roaming in selected countries if you have the following:

    1. An active 5G access pass on your plan or subscribed to Maxis Business Postpaid plans with 5G;
    2. To continue enjoying 5G roaming, please active 5G access pass via Maxis app here.
  • As long as you are on iOS 16.4 above, and using any one of the devices listed below, you should be able to connect to 5G when while roaming if 5G network is available:

    • iPhone 12 series
    • iPhone 13 series

    • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (5th generation or later)
